The University of Ioannina hosts an Erasmus+ Blended Intenstive Programme at Zagori

The University of Ioannina is currently hosting (28/04-02/05/2025) the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) titled:
“Analysis and Documentation of the Sustainable Architecture of Zagorochoria: Typology, Construction, Morphology, and Integration in the Natural Landscape”,
at the Lambrideios Research Station in Ano Pedina, located in the Municipality of Zagori.

This international programme brings together students and faculty from three members of the ARTEMIS European University — the University of Ioannina, OTH Regensburg (Germany), and the Università degli Studi di Perugia (Italy)—alongside two long-standing partner institutions: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) and Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria (Italy).

The programme (conducted in English) aims to provide students with a well-rounded education in the principles of traditional architecture, enhanced by the use of contemporary digital tools for documentation and analysis. It focuses on the study of architectural forms, construction techniques, and sustainable design approaches found in the traditional settlements of Zagori. Activities include lectures, hands-on workshops, site visits, and fieldwork, complemented by two additional phases: a preparatory online element and a follow-up component after the on-site mobility.

The video that follows includes statements highlighting the BIP’s impact—academically, in terms of outreach both within and beyond the ARTEMIS alliance, and on the regional ecosystem—featuring:

The Mayor of Zagori, Mr. G. Soukouvelos
The Rector of the University of Ioannina, Prof. A. Batistatou
The academic coordinator of the BIP, Prof. P. Mantzou, UoI Department of Architecture
The Vice-Rector for International Affairs at OTH Regensburg, Prof. O. Steffens

The BIP is supported by the stakeholders:

– Technical Chamber of Greece, Epirus Division, which is also an ARTEMIS Associated Partner, and the
– Ecomuseum Zagori
