Department
Profile
The Department of Music Studies of the University of Ioannina was established by law 4559/2018, as a successor to the Department of Folk and Traditional Music of the former TEI of Epirus, which was founded in 1999. Minimum duration of study: ten (10) academic semesters
Mission and goals
The goals and objectives of the Department of Music Studies focus on the musicological education of students based on an instrument-centered approach, which includes musical performance. Music is treated as a total social phenomenon, framed not only by its theoretical background, but also by the corresponding historical, cultural and anthropological studies. The character of the programme is organ-centric and comprehensively covers a triptych of specialized approaches (Western "classical" music, Eastern music, Folk and traditional music) while promoting openness and interaction between its different fields.
