Research activity at the University of Ioannina, is carried out in all areas and fields of knowledge covered by its Departments and Faculties. The “Special Account for Research Funds” (S.A.R.F., Eidikos Logariasmos Kondilion Erevnas, Ε.L.Κ.Ε.), operates with the purpose of managing funds for scientific research, education, training, technological development and innovation, as well as the provision of related services.
The funded research activities of the University of Ioannina which are carried out through S.A.R.F., are coordinated by the Research Committee of the S.A.R.F.of the University of Ioannina and are supported by the Directorate of Financial and Administrative Support of S.A.R.F..
The main aim of the Special Account for Research Funds of the University of Ioannina, is the management of funds that come from any source, as well as from its own resources, and are intended to cover expenses of any kind, that are necessary for the needs of carrying out research, educational, training and development projects, as well as the organization of seminars and conferences, the provision of scientific, technological and artistic services, the implementation of clinical studies, laboratory tests, measurements, and analyses, preparation of specifications on behalf of third parties, planning and implementing of scientific, cultural and development programs as well as other related services.
Emphasis is given on interdisciplinary applied research programs of interest to industry, economy and society. Research is funded through various Operational Programs , from Territorial Cooperation Programs, from the European Commission (FP6, FP7, HORIZON 2020, etc.) , as well as from the private sector.
Additionally, many research programs are carried out in the context of international collaborations between research groups from University of Ioannina and corresponding groups of institutions, enterprises and organizations of other countries, both within and outside the European Union.
These activities are carried out by the permanent staff of the University of Ioannina, in collaboration with and external scientists and staff.
